With direct deposit, you authorize your employer or federal agency, like the Social Security Administration or IRS, to deposit your check directly into your credit union account. It's the safest way to make sure your money is in your account and it saves you time and money.

• On payday your employer will provide an earnings statement showing net deposit and how much was withheld for taxes, company savings plans, or any other withheld amounts.
• Set up an eAlert on your account and you'll receive a message to your e-mail in-box or cell phone within minutes of when the funds are deposited.
• Produce additional savings - Set-up direct deposit of your net pay to your Communicating Arts Checking Account and qualify for Member Select, Member Select 50, or Member Select Advantage benefits.
• From your Communicating Arts account you can authorize payments for goods and services, use our online Bill Pay program to have checks sent from your account, and set up scheduled transfers to allocate savings, and automatic loan payments.

Some additional considerations

Stolen or misplaced checks. The Treasury Department reports that more than a million mailed Social Security and government pension checks are lost, stolen, or late every year. And, more than four million paychecks are lost or stolen each year.

Delayed deposits. Your funds are deposited regularly, and on time. You get paid even if you're not at work on payday, or can't make the deposit during business hours.

Losing potential dividends. With direct deposit you earn dividends on funds as soon as possible. If you have to deposit funds in person, any delay postpones when your money is available and starts making money.

Lost time. One estimate says direct deposit can save up to 24 hours a year otherwise spent cashing or depositing your paychecks.

Safety. Money deposited in your account is not going to slip out of your pocket unintentionally.

Check cashing costs. How much are you paying to cash your paycheck? Multiply that by the 26 times/year you get paid to figure real savings with direct deposit. Add to that how much you are paying to buy money orders to pay bills.
